  • Any items outlawed in the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (lead paint and phthalates).  Products that may contain lead include children’s jewelry, painted wooden or painted metal toys, and flimsily made toys that are easily breakable into small parts.  Among the recalled children’s products to pay particular attention to are cribs, play yards, and dolls and stuffed toys that have button, eyes, noses or other small parts that are not securely fastened and could present a choking hazard for small children.  Phthalates are a group of chemicals that are used to make vinyl and other plastics soft and flexible.  Balls, bath toys/bath books, dolls and inflatable pool toys are examples of toys that are covered by the law and might contain phthalates as are certain bibs, child placemats, cribs, booster seats, pacifiers and teethers. Anything purchased after February 2009 is safe to consign at our sale.  The new lead limits were in place by then, and anything manufactured after this date will be in compliance.  Read more here.
